SCLERAL LENSES and Specialty Contact lenses

Wilmington Family Eye Care specializes in both scleral lenses and specialty contact lenses for those with corneal eye disease.

Scleral lenses are an excellent option for patients who have been intolerant to or unable to wear standard soft contact lenses or have a history of corneal eye disease.

Scleral lenses are a large-diameter gas-permeable lens that rests on the white part of the eye, called the sclera. These lenses are a type of specialty lens that are customized for your eyes.

Scleral lenses have proven to be an excellent option for those who have failed with glasses or contact lenses in the past.

We often fit scleral lenses for patients with the following conditions:
  • Strong prescriptions

  • Keratoconus

  • Dry eye disease

  • Corneal ectasia

  • Corneal dystrophies

  • Post cataract surgery

  • Eye trauma

  • Sjogren’s Syndrome

Our office is able to provide a completely customized contact lens fitting unique to your specific eye shape and needs.

Call our office to determine if you are a candidate for a specialty scleral contact lens fitting.

Macular Degeneration

Our doctors are the first to lead the revolution in vision loss prevention through Adapt Dx - a test that can detect age related macular degeneration (AMD) 3 years earlier.  Early detection leads to better vision outcomes.
